Unkei is the famous sculptor. He is carving "NIO" at Gokoku temple. (NIO is a wrath-filled and muscular guardians of the Buddha)
"Man1: Unkei is not creating the eyebrow or nose with chisel. As you see, he is digging the wood to pick them out.
Man 2: I realized that carving is that easy... I can do that too.
--- After the Man 2 tried so many times, "couldn't find NIO anywhere in the wood... No wonder Unkei is still alive at such an old age"
Bringing all things together led me to try and take the emotions that guide us and represent them with some kind of physical model. I began by making simple, repetitive elements, and combined them to create assemblies with flexible, changing shapes. For me, each of these assemblies had a characteristic emotion.
I combined these together by allowing my intention to dictate where I would continue to connect each piece. Thus I tried to fully project my emotions in to the shape. From this physical model, I realized that these emotions were creating what I feel is the Shell or Shelter of my emotions.
